Metropolis, capital of the United States of Mexico, located 2240m above sea level and with around 20 million inhabitants, was founded in the year of 1521 by the Spaniards and built upon the ruins of the former Aztec city Tenochtitlán. The different cultures that have left their testimonies cover a period of nearly 2 millenniums and converted the city into a melting pot of modern Mexico. The pyramids of nearby Teotihuacan, the historic city centre, and the Museum of Anthropology are a "must" when visiting Mexico City.
